Description of problem: My netbook has the GMA 500 GPU. I was glad to see that the psb_gfx driver was built in kernel-3.2.1-3.fc16. However, when I boot with that kernel, the computer freezes shortly after the boot sequence is complete. When the computer freezes, the image on the display doesn't change. The keyboard and mouse become completely unresponsive. I have to hold down the power button for five seconds to reboot. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kernel-PAE-3.2.1-3.fc16.i686 How reproducible: Happens every time. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot with kernel-PAE-3.2.1-3.fc16.i686. 2. Try to log in and start to use the computer. Actual results: Computer freezes shortly after the boot sequence is complete. Once it froze at the login screen and once it froze after logging in. Expected results: The computer should not freeze. Additional info: The computer is a Dell Inspiron Mini 12. I have built a custom kernel (version 3.1) with the psb_gfx driver that doesn't freeze. I documented the instructions at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Enabling_Gma500_in_Fedora_16
Since you seem to be comfortable building kernels, could you report this issue to the upstream GMA500 developers?
I'm not sure what caused the freezes with kernel-3.2.1-3.fc16, but they are clearly not happening with kernel-3.2.2-1.fc16.
