Description of problem: Apologies if I am wrong on any aspect, information on this issue is difficult to confirm. It appears that usbserial.ko has vanished and is now part of the Kernel internal modules. So issuing the following command that worked with Fedora previously (Think it was F14) sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x0fcf product=0x1008 Now just disappears. Nothing in /var/log/messages, no console, no module, no /dev/ttyUSB0. By the looks its the same as http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1132784 and in their case the module was made external again. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): F16 How reproducible: find /lib/modules/ -name usbserial* *nothing uname -r 3.2.2-1.fc16.i686.PAE Steps to Reproduce: 1. Plugin a generic serial device that is not in the usbmaps 2. Try any which way to get the kernel to drive it with usb-serial 3. Additional info: I will try back on an older F14 box and double confirm dongle is still working.
[mass update] kernel-3.3.0-4.fc16 has been pushed to the Fedora 16 stable repository. Please retest with this update.

Ok, This is not a bug, but the lack of info out there is suprising. usbserial options now have to be specified as part of grub. This article details howto get usbserial with custom options running http://www.jamesarbrown.com/?p=5 But should someone not put some information somewhere? Even if its a comment on the console when anyone trys to run modprobe usbserial etc? James Closing this issue
