Please install the "foomatic" package, and then try other drivers.

You are currently using "Kyocera FS-1118MFP - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified".

The recommended driver is "Kyocera FS-1118MFP", and this should be the first one in the list of drivers when using system-config-printer.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_printing_problems#Which_driver_am_I_using.3F

Do any of the other drivers give better results?

Comment 5 Mikhail 2012-02-08 14:57:37 UTC
Before:
[mikhail@telecon17l ~]$ grep -H '^*NickName:' /etc/cups/ppd/*.ppd
/etc/cups/ppd/FS-1118MFP.ppd:*NickName: "Kyocera FS-1118MFP - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified"

After installed "foomatic" package and re-install printer driver:
[mikhail@telecon17l ~]$ grep -H '^*NickName:' /etc/cups/ppd/*.ppd
/etc/cups/ppd/FS-1118MFP.ppd:*NickName: "Kyocera FS-1118MFP"

Seems that problem solved, could you block "Kyocera FS-1118MFP - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified" driver, instead make automatic install "foomatic" package ?

Now with "Kyocera FS-1118MFP" driver couldn't print any message from evolution. Every time when I try send to printer letter, printer show me "cf2ff" error, and asked to switch off and turn on it.

Also be useful add feature adding different drivers (including from file) by printer applet on gnome-control-center. (system-config-printer will die someday)

Please file a separate bug report against control-center for that. The indications I've had so far are that GNOME has no intention of adding that sort of capability, but I agree that it would be very useful.

This is already being tracked as bug #782377. Once foomatic-db has this Device ID added, it will already be the preferred driver.

Can you please explain in more detail. Where do you see the error -- on the printer's display panel?

Does printing a test page work correctly? Are other applications able to print?

If you print to a file from evolution and print that file from the command line using 'lp', does that work?

As the original issue was due to the wrong driver being used, which is tracked elsewhere, I'm changing this bug summary to reflect the printing-from-evolution problem.

Yes, I see it on printer's display panel. Seems that problem of printer.

Test print page - OK in many case
LibreOffice Write - OK in many case
LibreOffice Calc - OK in many case
Document Viewer - OK in many case
Google Chrome - OK in many case
Firefox - OK, but sometimes I see "cf2ff" error on printer's display panel
Opera - no print, no error
Evolution - every time "cf2ff" error on printer's display panel

"cf2ff" error

Comment 10 Mikhail 2012-02-09 15:09:30 UTC
Of course, I don't know in which cases another application may create "cf2ff" error in printer.

Comment 11 Tim Waugh 2012-02-09 15:55:49 UTC
Thanks. Can you please try printing from evolution but selecting "Print to file" instead of printing directly to the printer? Just do this for a simple test email.

Now, having saved the file as "output.pdf", try this:

lp -d FS-1118MFP output.pdf

Do you get the same error? If so, please attach output.pdf.

Yes, I get same error, output.pdf is attached.

Can you check with the manufacturer whether there is any updated firmware available for the printer?

You may also want to go through the 'Installable Options' section using system-config-printer and check that the settings are correct e.g. amount of installed memory.

Failing that, could you please try a different driver, perhaps one of these ones might give better results:

Kyocera FS-1118MFP Foomatic/Postscript
Kyocera FS-1118MFP Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e

Comment 15 Mikhail 2012-03-06 13:16:31 UTC
I tested various versions of the drivers here are the results:

Kyocera FS-1118MFP - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified
- The printer is trying to take the paper from the tray where there is no paper.

Kyocera FS-1118MFP
- Evolution throw "cf2ff" error on printer's display panel

Kyocera FS-1118MFP Foomatic/Postscript
- The printer is trying to take the paper from the tray where there is no paper.
- Evolution throw "cf2ff" error on printer's display panel

Kyocera FS-1118MFP Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e
- Cant print test page

I have not found the firmware for the printer in the public as well as instructions for flashing.

Installable Options is set's for minimum e.g. standard amount RAM.

Comment 16 Mikhail 2012-03-15 13:58:21 UTC
What else can I try?

Comment 17 Tim Waugh 2012-10-31 16:04:56 UTC
I'm not sure. Perhaps this website will have something that will help:

(there is a forum for Kyocera printer owners)
