Date of First Response: 2008-11-26 19:29:11 project_key: JBEPP I believe this should not be as extensive as reference guide in terms of effort. :-) We only need to add portal database configuration stuff to EAP installation guide. Difference will be instead of EAP bundle, it will be EPP bundle which will have portal already in it. I see that there is another document https://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbossas/projects/docs/enterprise/4.3.4/Portal_EAP which has database configuration part. So seems like it's just a matter of merging them.

Which version of the EAP installation guide should this be based on?
It will be based on EAP 4.3_CP03 release.
Scott, For this release of EPP, we need to strip down few things from EAP installation guide and add some new stuff. Here are the details: 1. There is no graphical installer for EPP. So Installation using the graphical installer part from EAP guide needs to go away. 2. RHN part also needs to go away. (Basically there should be only zip download) 3. Add database part. My suggestion is based on what I see at http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/jboss/jboss-eap-4.2.0.cp01/doc/Installation_Guide/index.html. I hope not much has changed in EAP 4.3 CP03.

If you checkout https://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbossas/projects/docs/enterprise/4.3.4/Portal_EAP and build it, you will see that the resulting doc has database configuration for different databases. Please let me know if you have trouble building this doc.

Ok, the format looks good. I will make some changes to content. It will be simple stuff like version and some more portal related stuff.
I made some changes. Please synch up your code with repository and see how everything looks. On another note, can you add DB descriptor parts for other databases? I think they were present in old installation guide that I pointed on my previous comment.
Looks fine to me. Regarding 2.1.2 "Installing and Configuring 32-bit Sun JDK 5.0 on a generic Linux platform" - I've been asked to check if this configuration is supported? And further to that, are other databases?
For section 2.1.2, if that's what it says for EAP then it's true for EPP as well. I did not understand what you mean by "And further to that, are other databases?". What I meant is similar instruction for Oracle, Mssql, Postgresql to what you have for MySQL.
OK that's fine regarding 2.1.2. My other question was if these other databases (besides MySQL) are supported. If they are in a previous guide I will track them down, but was just making sure.
Yes, following DBs are supported; 1. MySQL 4 & MySQL5 2. Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g 3. PostgreSQL 4. MSSQL 5. Hypersonic Sybase and DB2 are not officially supported.

Version is unset (currently says "<version>") **Should be 4.3.0.GA** Chapter 2 2.1.1 FYI: The supported configurations page linked to has up to date information for JBEAP, but no mention of JBEPP. 2.2 FYI: The components version page linked to has information about the level of the JBEAP that is included in JBEPP, but does not include the JBEPP component. Chapter 3 3.2 Installing. This section currently has inconsistent references to file names - some references are jboss-eap, one is jboss-epp Chapter 4 4.1 Should the directory name change from EnterprisePlatform to something like EnterprisePortalPlatform?
I am glad you are paying attention to details. Please go ahead with your changes. Once doc is tagged for GA release, we will update the version. Goal at this stage is to have everything else ready so that the only thing that's left is version number changes. 3.2. jboss-eap reference should be changed to jboss-epp. 4.1 Please go ahead. I will take a look at the rest.

Prabhat, I can not find the documentation for the descriptors for Oracle, Postgres, MSSQL etc. - it doesn't seem to be in the guide you previously linked.. Can you please direct me to where it is so I can import it into this guide?
Some of what Josh pointed out earlier have been fixed. Scott, for other databases, please mention that sample descriptors can be found at jboss-epp-4.3/setup when jboss-epp-4.3.zip is exploded.
