Description floyd smith 2012-02-19 09:45:05 UTC
Created attachment 564158 [details]
sampling of messages for bad boot and ok boot

Description of problem:
vmlinuz-3.2.6-3.fc16.x86_64 can not mount a vfat filesystem

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
vmlinuz-3.2.6-3.fc16.x86_64

How reproducible:
every boot

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot from dos using linld with kernel and initramfs files renamed and cped to dos partition
2.linld cmdline
3.set kf=16b
::Note: 16b refers to software update fc16 3.2.6-3.fc16.x86_64 kernel on 021812
\WINDOWS\smartdrv.exe /C
\linld097\linld.com initrd=\%kf%.i image=\%kf%.k "cl=ro root=LABEL=/313 rhgb quiet"

Actual results:
# mount /dev/sda1 /dosc
mount: unknown filesystem type 'vfat'
#

Expected results:
kernel vmlinuz-3.2.2-1.fc16.x86_64 works OK

Comment 2 floyd smith 2012-02-21 14:06:17 UTC
When I did my software update 021812 I must have cped the new /boot/kernel /initramfs files to /dosc but when I backed up the what I thought was the filesystem that I had just updated I must have backed up one that had not been updated. Consequently, when I restored that backup to my other linux filesytems, I did not have the latest /lib/modules.
