Description of problem: I just bought a brand new Samsung laptop. I have installed Fedora Linux boot has error message Then it seems to work fine when I am using a mouse, but the touchpad does not work. Sometimes not well, sometimes not at all... As soon as I use a USB mouse, the mouse works. >> uname -a >> Linux qingwei 3.2.9-1.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Mar 1 01:41:10 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 16 with Linux kernel 3.2.9 How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Fedora 16 on a new Samsung laptop series 7, model 700 Z4 AH 2. there is an error on boot message 3. the touchpad does not work well Actual results: Expected results: no error message at boot time touchpad should work Additional info:
I forgot to mention the linux boot error message is the following pnp 00:0b can't evaluate _CRS 12311
Can you attach full dmesg output please?
There are only 3 lines First I get Loading Fedora 3.2.9-2_fc16.x86_64 Second line is Loading initial ramdisk... and then the third line [0.484696] pnp 00:0b: can't evaluate _CRS: 12311 The time at the beginning changes each time I boot... After that the kernel boots however normally, I can login but I have bad touchpad (press and drag to move windows does not work) and as soon as I go in system settings to change anything in the touchpad, then it freezes and I cannot move the cursor anymore, no click either, it is completely frozen... I can only logout using the keyboard When I use an external USB mouse, apparently no problem. The battery goes out quickly however. I can work 6 hours with Windows 7 but only 2 hours with Fedora If you send me a debug kernel I can send more info...
can you please attach the output of the dmesg command once logged in?

I have upgraded to 3.4.7-1.fc16.x86_64 Same problem, same symptoms error message at boot time: can't evaluate _CRS: 12311 and touchpad does not work
There are a few changes to the elantech driver in the 3.5 kernel that might help the issue. Have you tried Fedora 17 on this machine at all?
