Description Terry Duell 2012-03-22 10:23:16 UTC
Description of problem:
Upgraded to kernel-3.3.0-4.fc16.x86_64 and akmods failed to build and install

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-3.3.0-4.fc16.x86_64

How reproducible:
Not sure

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Upgrade kernel from 3.2.10
2.reboot
3.

Actual results:
failed to complete the boot

Expected results:
to complete the boot

Additional info:
suspected a graphics problem, managed to boot into text mode.
Tried 'sudo service akmods restart', and received message 'Ignoring nvidia-kmod as it failed earlier'.
Tried '/usr/sbin/akmods --force' and received report 'building and installing nvidia-kmod [failed]'

found log which (amongst other things) says 'unable to determine the target kernel version'

This is still a problem for those of us compiling from external sources that need the kernel-headers and kernel-devel package to be complete. I can't compile the NVIDIA drivers under bumblebee (Optimus bumblebee user).

/root/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-295.20.run worked fine

Do I need to force bumblebee to use the .33.run file?

Thanks.
