Description JCB 2012-03-26 14:33:29 UTC
I use Fedora 16 -Gnome 3.2.1 - Kernel 3.2.9-2.fc16.i686 on an Acer 4720z laptop, Atheros wireless card AR5007EG. I had to install madwifi for the wireless to work. Every time I update the kernel the wireless connection does not work and I have to reinstall madwifi. Why does madwifi need to be reinstalled every update?

Expected results:
I believed that when updating the kernel wireless settings should be maintained.

madwifi is a kernel module, and kernel modules have to be built for specific kernels. When you update the kernel, your old madwifi build won't work with the new kernel.

If the ath5k driver is not working for you, you should open a bug specific to that issue. I'll leave this bug open for now, in case you want to modify it to report the problems you are having with ath5k. In any case, madwifi is not supported by Fedora.
