Description Richard Allen 2012-05-29 19:39:24 UTC
Description of problem:
New in Fedora 17 is that the tilda character '~' is now a dead key. when I want to access my home directory (~ra) in a gnome-terminal (or any other X program) I have to hit the tilda key and then a space to make the tilda appear. If I forget the space it tries to create a 'r' with a tilda on top, which does not exist so I get a beep and a bad command. I feel that retraining me (and other *nix geeks) to remember to put in a space character after the tilda on Linux platforms only is not very practical

This does not happen on a Virtual Console.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 17

How reproducible:
Open gnome-terminal or xterm and attempt to access some users $HOME via the tilde (~username) system.
Open firefox and type in the URL of some users home (http://server/~username)
Or just do anything with a tilda.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. press tilda key
2. see no tilda appear on screen
3. press space, see tilda appear

Actual results:

Expected results:

Fix dead key issue

The problem has been fixed upstream. Question if the patch can be applied to fedora 17 as well?
