Comment 1 Rex Dieter 2012-06-08 12:37:58 UTC
What video chipset/driver are you using?

Including the output of lsmod and lspci may help.

Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2012-06-08 12:38:23 UTC
Oh, and you mentioned 3.4 broke stuff, which kernel versions worked ok (all those < 3.4)?

Comment 4 r.zoro10 2012-06-08 12:55:32 UTC
I'm sorry I meant GeForce G105M nvidia drvers 295.53

Comment 5 Lukáš Tinkl 2012-06-08 12:56:41 UTC
Sorry, you use the proprietary nvidia blob, can't help you there... try to reproduce with the stock nouveau driver.

ls -al /sys/class/backlight/ please, to be sure :)

[14:59] <Caterpillar> ls -al /sys/class/backlight/ gives
[14:59] <Caterpillar> totale 0
[14:59] <Caterpillar> drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 8 giu 12.24 .
[14:59] <Caterpillar> drwxr-xr-x 58 root root 0 8 giu 12.24 .
[14:59] <ltinkl> ok
[14:59] <ltinkl> Caterpillar: xbacklight gives?
[15:00] <Caterpillar> have to install it
[15:00] <ltinkl> yum install xbacklight :)
[15:00] <Caterpillar> yes, doing it
[15:01] <Caterpillar> no outputs have baclight property

Comment 8 Kevin Kofler 2012-06-08 18:41:01 UTC
The proprietary nvidia driver does not support setting the backlight through X11/XRandR, no surprise there.
