Description Allan Duncan 2012-07-30 13:12:38 UTC
Description of problem:

This may be an initramfs issue.

Fedora 17, 64bit.
On booting the process hangs for 60 seconds. then issues an error message before continuing. From dmesg:
[ 6.223753] [sched_delayed] sched: RT throttling activated
[ 66.833248] Failed to load image "advansys/mcode.bin" err -2
[ 66.833341] scsi host8: error: init_state 0x1f, warn 0xfffe, error 0x2

After booting, the advansys module can be unloaded then modprobe'd and the firmware loads and the controller functions normally.

I've tested this on kernel versions 3.2.10 to 3.5.0 - same failing.

_However_ the same hardware and kernel versions on a severely bastardised F14 32bit works perfectly.
An install of F15 64bit also has the mcode.bin file, and kernel 3.1.0 works OK.

I have unpacked the initramfs, and the file lib/firmware/advansys/mcode.bin exists.

Can you remove the 'rhgb quiet' from the kernel parameters and specify 'rd.info rd.udev.info' and attach the output?

This should be fixed with the 3.8.2 update in updates-testing. Firmware loading was moved to be in-kernel so we don't rely on udev any longer.

Comment 4 Allan Duncan 2013-03-17 07:51:49 UTC
I can't say about 3.8.0 (it flashed by without me catching it) but 3.8.1 also works fine.
3.7.10 doesn't.
