I assume step 2 is actually

2. ldd /usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so |grep 'not found'

but anyway gnome-desktop doesn't use pixman directly, so if it's linking to it, it's linking to it indirectly.  Does

rpm -q --requires cairo |grep pixman

return anything?

rpm -q --requires cairo | grep pixman
libpixman-1.so.0()(64bit)  
libpixman-1.so.0

So you think it is transitional dependency (or how is it called)? In that case it could be closed.

well, there's some mystery here.  why wasn't pixman pulled in when you installed cairo ?

Well it is not a mistery since it is a stable system and anybody can unistall pixman for testing or so. We can close I believe.

i don't know how they could without --nodeps, but you filed it, you get to say if it gets closed :-)
