I regularly move my Rawhide hard drive among many systems. I install the drive as /dev/hdb and do a chained boot to /dev/hdb1 from lilo running on a floppy. The rpms installed on my Rawhide drive are all up to date with the latest Rawhide rpms as of this writing (2000/02/02 0800 California time). Up through kudzu-0.24-1, kudzu has worked great for me when moving my drive from system to system. When I upgraded from kudzu-0.24-1.i386.rpm to kudzu-0.25-1.i386.rpm, kudzu started hanging indefinitely during boot (right after "Checking for new hardware". I reverted to kudzu-0.24-1.i386.rpm and everything was fine again. My experiment used two systems: 1. Dell Dimension XPS R350 with Diamond TNT2 Ultra gfx and 3c59x net 2. Dell Dimension XPS D300 with Matrox Millennium II gfx and eepro100 net I did the following: 1. Install kudzu-0.24-1 on drive 2. Boot drive on System 1 -> ok 3. Boot drive on System 2 -> ok 4. Boot drive on System 1 -> ok 5. Install kudzu-0.25-1 on drive 6. Boot drive on System 2 -> kudzu hangs during boot I tried this with various other systems and got similar results: kudzu-0.24-1 was fine, but kudzu-0.25-1 would hang on boot when moving the drive from system to system. Yah, is stupid programmer error. If you fix the infinite loop, it will segfault. ;) Fixed in kudzu-0.26-1.
