Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2013-04-03 19:02:50 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 19 development cycle.
Changing version to '19'.

(As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 19 development
cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 19 End Of Life. Thank you.)

Comment 3 Siddharth Sharma 2013-04-15 18:26:40 UTC
Hiya,

i already notified upstream longtime back here is discussion

>Hi everybody,

>I have received a mail from a guy from fedora community about a "bug" report >regarding a name collision of the lemon binary. I did receive other mail some >time ago about the same but i dont remember if it was about lemon or squeeze; my >answer that time was that it was an easy to solve collision (problem) because of >the package causing the collision was not a common software that would be >installed along with lemonpos.

>The report is here https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=913681

>What do you think about changing the binary (or binaries) names and what would >be the best choice (s)?

>Did anyone has had the same problem before?

good idea will be to send message here as well lemonpos-general <lemonpos-general.net>

Peer pressure might get this working. I agree binary name has to be changed to resolve conflicts.

Comment 4 Michael Schwendt 2013-04-15 18:56:59 UTC
Good that the previous communication has been copied here. The older ticket has been responded to.

> the package causing the collision was not a common software
> that would be installed along with lemonpos.

Just don't forget repository metadata. One of the dangers of file conflicts such as this one is that you could not "Requires: /usr/bin/lemon" without the depsolver finding two packages that provide a file with that path.

What counts is the attempt at resolving the conflict. There are specific guidelines such as these:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Conflicts#Incompatible_Binary_Files_with_Conflicting_Naming_.28and_stubborn_upstreams.29
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Conflicts#Other_Uses_of_Conflicts:

Typo: ... has not ...

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2015-01-09 22:04:27 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will
be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 7 Michael Schwendt 2015-01-10 10:56:57 UTC
Transaction check error:
file /usr/bin/lemon conflicts between attempted installs of lemon-3.8.7.4-1.fc21.x86_64 and lemonpos-0.9.4-11.fc21.x86_64

Thank you this is actually very old bug and I tried talking once to upstream to change the binary name. I can patch by changing binary name in fedora rpm if people feel that is a feasible solution.

There are specific packaging guidelines on how to handle conflicts.
