Description Ralf-Peter Rohbeck 2013-05-05 06:19:07 UTC
Description of problem:
2560x1440 monitors on DP->DVI-dual adapters not recognized correctly but used as primary display

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-drv-ati-7.1.0-5.20130408git6e74aacc5.fc19.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start up F19 live DVD
2.
3.

Actual results:
Gnome3 desktop not functioning - menu is on a monitor that doesn't display due to wrong settings. Right click works.
Monitors recognized as follows (left to right in Gnome3 Displays applet):
Unknown Display (1024x768) (no display on 2560x1440 monitor, this one becomes the primary monitor, hence no menu)
Unknown Display (1024x768) (no display on 2560x1440 monitor)
Acer Technologies 27" (1920x1080) (correct - this is the monitor on HDMI)
Archtek Telecom Corporation 27" (2560x1440) (correct - this is the monitor on DVI-0)

Expected results:
Default primary monitor should be HDMI if present, then DVI, then DP (IMHO)

Additional info:
This setup works with my Debian installation and hand-built X stack from git but it was very hairy to get it correct, with a big xorg.conf that specifies everything.
Asus Crosshair V
AMD FX-8350
XFX HD7850 with 4 monitors:
HDMI: 1920x1080 Acer
DVI-0: 2560X1440 Achieva Shimian
DP-0: 2560X1440 Qnix QX2700 via Accell B087B-007B adapter
DP-1: 2560X1440 Qnix QX2700 via Accell B087B-007B adapter

Comment 5 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2013-10-07 13:05:16 UTC
Hi there, with a Radeon 7770 (so using the radeonsi driver too), I've experienced something similar: I haven't tested the mini-displayport output, but only DVI works - I can't get it to recognize the TV I plugged into the HDMI port. randr (or GNOME's display settings) will always think that port is disconnected.

Wondering if it's the same issue. Should I just piggyback and add the same files onto this bug or should I open another one?

Comment 6 Ralf-Peter Rohbeck 2013-10-14 06:39:45 UTC
Mine is specific to active DP->DVI adapters so you should open your own bug.

Comment 7 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2013-10-16 03:39:40 UTC
Alright, filed bug #1019543 about the HDMI issue.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2015-01-09 18:02:38 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will
be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2015-02-17 15:09:22 UTC
Fedora 19 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-01-06. Fedora 19 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
