Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 978226
TUI: NIC model always display "unknown" in Network page on Dell smbios 2.6+ machine .
Last modified: 2014-01-21 14:42:28 EST
Created attachment 765420 [details] attached Screenshots Can reproduce this issue on version: rhev-hypervisor6-6.5-20130222.0.auto1695.el6.iso ovirt-node-3.0.0-0.999.20130619191528giteda9921.el6.noarch Clean install rhev-h, enter network page, check that nic model display "unkown", after configure nic by using "DHCP/static", it also display "unkown",reboot rhev-h , and check the nic model again, it still shown "unkown", it only happens on the Dell smbios 2.6+ machine. Also enter Nic Details Dialog, the item "Vendor" also shown "unkown".
It seems that the caching mechanism was incorrect in the new UI, that could lead to missing informations. This was at least the problem with the ovirt-node and 6.5 builds. The referenced gerrit patch fixes the caching problem. Tested as follows: 1. Use latest upstream master with patch 2. Enter network page. Model (Vendor) is displayed 3. Enter NIC details by selecting a NIC: Vendor is shown
Test version: rhev-hypervisor6-6.5-20131017.0.iso ovirt-node-3.0.1-4.el6 Clean install rhev-h on the Dell smbios 2.6+ machine, enter network detail page, check that nic model missed model name, Enter NIC details by selecting a NIC: the itme of Vendor was also shown nothing. so this bug wasn't fixed, need to re-assigned it again.
Haiyang, can you prepare a machine to test this?
Harald, could it be that not all properties are available for renamed nics or nisc on smbios machines? Here we are using ID_VENDOR_FROM_DATABASE but this property doesn't seem to exist for this interface. Have you got an idea why it can be missing or how to get it? # dmesg | grep udev udev: starting version 147 udev: renamed network interface eth0 to em1 udev: starting version 147 # udevadm info --path=/sys/class/net/em1 --query=all P: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:19.0/net/em1 E: UDEV_LOG=3 E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:19.0/net/em1 E: INTERFACE=em1 E: IFINDEX=2 E: SUBSYSTEM=net # udevadm trigger --action=add --subsystem-match=net # udevadm info --path=/sys/class/net/em1 --query=all P: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:19.0/net/em1 E: UDEV_LOG=3 E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:19.0/net/em1 E: INTERFACE=em1 E: IFINDEX=2 E: SUBSYSTEM=net # cat /sys/class/net/em1/device/vendor 0x8086

> (In reply to Fabian Deutsch from comment #10) > Have you got an idea why it can be missing or how to get it? You can get it of course via sysfs: > # cat /sys/class/net/em1/device/vendor > 0x8086

Thanks for the reply. We can probably do a fallback using lspci: # lspci -mm -d 0x8086:0x1502

Test version: rhevh-6.5-20131220.0 ovirt-node-3.0.1-13.el6_5.noarch Clean install rhev-h on the Dell smbios 2.6+ machine, enter network detail page, check that nic model could display, after configure nic by using "DHCP/static", it also could display, reboot rhev-h , and check the nic model again, it still was shown "Intel Corporation 82579". So this bug has been fixed, after the status changed into "ON_QA", I will verify it.
According to comment 20, change the status into "verified"
