Description Vít Ondruch 2013-07-01 11:48:05 UTC
ABRT is using abrt-desktop virtual package [1] for installation of all its dependencies. However, more Fedora'ish approach is to use comps [2]. This would allow to conditionalize installation of ABRT components depending on installed requires, e.g. install python hook when python is installed, etc.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2013-09-16 14:20:02 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 20 development cycle.
Changing version to '20'.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 09:08:44 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Vít Ondruch 2015-06-08 12:13:18 UTC
This is still valid. Comps should contain ABRT group and abrt-desktop should be obsoleted.

Comment 5 Jakub Filak 2015-07-14 12:00:38 UTC
Unfortunately, I do not think we can replace abrt-dektop/abrt-cli packages with Comps groups becuase Comps does not allow inclusion of a group in another group. Therefore, I would have to replace all occurrences of abrt-dektop/abrt-cli (9, comps-f23) with ~10 lines.

How does the "conditionalize installation" works?

Comment 6 Vít Ondruch 2015-07-14 12:25:08 UTC
Time flies and we have weak dependencies in Fedora now:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:WeakDependencies

I even suggested to drop comps entirely:

https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2015-July/212299.html

So probably the virtual package with Recommends instead of Requires would make more sense now. Or probably every language should Recommend/Suggest its ABRT hooks ...

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle.
Changing version to '23'.

(As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development
cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.)

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2016-12-20 12:39:37 UTC
Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
