Description Richard W.M. Jones 2013-07-15 12:08:54 UTC
Description of problem:

While (trying to) bring up the network, Fedora Rawhide hangs
running the command
  /sbin/modprobe -q -- net-pf-16-proto-16-family-nl80211

Running 'service network start' by hand from the console works.

Kernel messages are attached.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kernel-3.11.0-0.rc0.git7.1.fc20.x86_64

How reproducible:

100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install rawhide in a VM.
2. Reboot.

Additional info:

I'm not running rawhide or f19, could you install kernel-debug, reproduce and provide dmesg ? Debug kernel has CONFIG_LOCKDEP enabled which should print more detailed information where the problem is.

Upstream report is here, but we do not have any patch yet:

There's no 'kernel-debug' package available, according to yum.
Do you mean kernel-devel?

Comment 4 Stanislaw Gruszka 2013-07-22 12:45:16 UTC
No kernel-debug, but I just find out, rawhide has no kernel-debug. It has debug options enabled by default, but for some reasons some builds have them disabled. From the changelog here http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=433327 looks like kernel 3.11.0-0.rc0.git7.1.fc20.x86_64 has debug options, so problem must be different class than detectable by LOCKDEP.

I started kernel build (compiling currently):
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=5650781
with patch posted upstream:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-netdev&m=137465981405759&w=2
Please test, when kernel finish to compile.
