Description mouser 2013-08-01 16:45:02 UTC
Description of problem:

fglrx will not build against kernel 3.10, using kmod-catalyst, akmod-catalyst or the Catalyst downloaded from AMD website. Desktop effects crash kwin using openGL as a result.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-3.10

How reproducible:
Install Catalyst by any of three means -- akmod-catalyst, kmod-catalyst or amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-4-x86.x86_64.run

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Catalyst by any of three means -- akmod-catalyst, kmod-catalyst or amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-4-x86.x86_64.run
2.
3.

Actual results:
Desktop effects fail, programs using openGL crash. Reinstalling amd driver in kernel 3.9 causes kernel 3.10 to not load initramfs.

Expected results:
Normal video and graphics functions after install

Additional info:
It took me two days to figure out this was a kernel issue. Once I figured that out, I booted to kernel 3.9, forced the driver install using Install Catalyst by any of three means -- akmod-catalyst, kmod-catalyst or amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-4-x86.x86_64.run, and rebooted to the 3.10 kernel. At that point, the kernel could not load initramfs.

I rebooted to kernel 3.9, removed kernel 3.10, rebooted, reinstalled kernel 3.10. Got a notification that there was a problem building fglrx against the new kernel. I removed and blacklisted the kernel, and everything is working fine now.

We don't provide or support flgrx. You'll need to contact whomever provides you with that driver.
