Description Angelo 'Archie' Amoruso 2003-07-15 10:03:28 EDT
Description of problem:

System with 2 PCI sound cards : one AC'97 embedded in the motherboard and
a add-in Creative Sound Blaster Live! .

The AC'97 card doesn't work with Linux on my system (Athlon Slot-A 550 MHz, Soltek
mainboard based on VIA KX133 chipset) so I've installed an extra SB Live! card.
I've disabled by BIOS the onboard AC'97 audio interface.

Using sndconfig only the AC'97 onboard card gets detected.
It would be interesting if sndconfig doesn't stop at first detected card and continues
probing, showing the list of cards found.

BTW: the SB Live! card work correctly manually loading the emu10k1.o module,
via manual insmod and/or modifying the /etc/modules.conf file.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
sndconfig 0.70

How reproducible:
Install an extra soundcard on a system with onboard audio card on motheboard.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. launch sndconfig

Actual results:
Using sndconfig only the AC'97 onboard card gets detected.

Expected results:
It would be interesting if sndconfig doesn't stop at first detected card and continues
probing, showing the list of cards found.

Comment 1 Bill Nottingham 2003-07-15 10:51:53 EDT
sndconfig doesn't support multiple sound cards, and won't in the future; it's
deprecated. PCI sound cards should be handled through other means.
Comment 2 Angelo 'Archie' Amoruso 2003-07-15 11:42:43 EDT
But Redhat 9 setup program uses right sndconfig to configure audio. Is there any tool
available?
Comment 3 Bill Nottingham 2003-07-15 11:56:26 EDT
kudzu should configure all pci sound cards correctly; in your case, it should
have something like:

alias sound-slot-0 via82cxxx_audio
alias sound-slot-1 emu10k1
