Linux kernel built with the UDF file system(CONFIG_UDF_FS) support is vulnerable to an information leakage issue. It could occur while reading symlink information from corrupted/malicious udf file system image. An unprivileged user could use this flaw to leak kernel memory bytes. Statement: This issue affects the versions of the Linux kernel as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, 7 and Red Hat Enterprise MRG 2.
This has been rated as having Low security impact and is not currently planned to be addressed in future updates. For additional information, refer to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Life Cycle: https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/.
Acknowledgement: Red Hat would like to thank Carl H Lunde for reporting this issue.
Mitigation: The UDF filesystem is enabled via loading the UDF kernel module. The kernel module can be prevented from loading via blacklisting see https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for more information.
