Description Guilherme de Almeida Suckevicz 2021-03-24 16:12:33 UTC
XStream is a Java library to serialize objects to XML and back again. In XStream before version 1.4.16, there is a vulnerability which may allow a remote attacker to load and execute arbitrary code from a remote host only by manipulating the processed input stream. No user is affected, who followed the recommendation to setup XStream's security framework with a whitelist limited to the minimal required types. If you rely on XStream's default blacklist of the Security Framework, you will have to use at least version 1.4.16.

Created xstream tracking bugs for this issue:

Affects: fedora-all [bug 1942631]

Comment 3 Sage McTaggart 2021-03-29 15:09:19 UTC
Statement:

OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) delivers Jenkins LTS package with bundled XStream library. Due to JEP-200 [1] and JEP-228 [2] Jenkins projects, OCP Jenkins package is not affected by this flaw.

Comment 16 Jonathan Christison 2021-04-08 13:42:46 UTC
Marking Red Hat Jboss AMQ 6 as having a low impact, AMQ distributes affected versions of XStream, however its use in AMQ 6 is not susceptible to the vulnerability as the XStream security framework with an allowlist is in place.

This vulnerability is out of security support scope for the following products:
 * Red Hat JBoss AMQ 6

Please refer to https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/jboss_notes for more details.
