Description of problem: During the F15 Radeon testday -- https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2011-02-23_Radeon -- two of my machines encountered some hard lockups where the screen went dark, they weren't reachable and didn't react to any other "stimulation" from outside. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kernel-2.6.38-0.rc5.git5.1.fc15.x86_64 and whatever else was put on the live ISO: http://adamwill.fedorapeople.org/gfx_test_week_201102/gfx_test_week_20110221_x86-64.iso How reproducible: Somewhat. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Conduct tests as described in the wiki, eventually running glxgears and a video concurrently helps(?) Actual results: Suddenly everything is dark (screen _and_ previously lit kbd LEDs), no reaction on any key presses, machines don't ping from outside. Expected results: No crash. Additional info: Smolt profile for the machines: RS780M: http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_422b3246-f396-4785-8231-26ef5fe5fdb2 RV620: http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_3e3f5e3d-ad22-4d0f-aa79-b2e88e522c6c For further tests with the RS780M machine I'd probably need another live image as it is on F-14 and doesn't have enough space to install another OS beside.
FWIW, on the RS780M machine I saw a "melting screen" (faded to white) one or two times, graphics and kbd were hosed but it was pingable afterwards. I don't know if this is related.
I also have issues with the radeon driver on my two ATI cards, and it is related to bugs in the kernel-2.6.38-0.rc5.git5.1.fc15 release. The kernel -rc4 and -rc6 (fc16) both work fine. This is an issue with the F15 Alpha RC2 LiveCD also. Request radeon fixes from 2.6.38-rc6 kernel are patched to F15, or the F15 release is moved to 2.6.38-rc6 kernel. I have an ATI 5650 mobile video card in Acer laptop, and ATI 4870 PCI-E card in my desktop, both fail to load in anything other than Basic Video mode with F15 Alpha.
2.6.38-rc6-git6 is already submitted: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/kernel-2.6.38-0.rc6.git6.1.fc15 It has been in updates-testing for a while, and -rc6-git4 was there earlier; is that repo not enabled on your machines?
Is that package for updates-testing only available through F15 Alpha installs? I see the fedora-release-rawhide package has jumped up to F16, and I can't work out any way to keep getting F15 packages onto my current F14 install? Am I missing a .repo file somewhere?
F15 has moved well beyond 2.6.38-rc6 at this point. I'm going to close this bug out. If you are still seeing these issues on the latest F15 or F16 kernel, please reopen.
