Description Petr Schindler 2012-04-27 15:59:36 UTC
Description of problem:
Language is not changed when I use system-config-language for language setting. Only thing I can see translated is gdm, nothing else.

I thing that this tool is obsolete by gnome-control-center.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
system-config-language-1.3.5-10.fc17.noarch

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run system-config-language
2. Choose some language
3. Log out
4. Log in

Actual results:
gdm is in chosen language but system is still in default.

Expected results:
I propose to get rid of this tool as we have gnome-control-center, so this tool is no more needed

Additional info:
I propose this as blocker bug per criterion: Menu sanity - the following criteria refer to both a live image and default installed system, and to all release-blocking desktops
- All applications listed under the Applications menu or category must withstand a basic functionality test and not crash after a few minutes of normal use. They must also have working Help and Help -> About menu items

Comment 1 Adam Williamson 2012-04-27 16:04:57 UTC
I'm not sure this is correct. s-c-l should set system-wide settings, gnome-control-center should set it within GNOME. it would be best to check with the l10n/i18n experts before deciding tools are useless/not working.

Comment 2 Petr Schindler 2012-04-27 16:31:47 UTC
Looks like you are right and I failed. My fault. The thing which confused me is that it says: "The changes will take effect the next time you log in." when you set another language. Maybe this should be amended.

Comment 3 A S Alam 2012-04-28 03:12:16 UTC
s-c-language application is setting locale/language for system, not for user. But Message "The changes will take effect the next time you log in" can be improved.

Comment 4 Pravin Satpute 2012-04-30 07:35:08 UTC
Hi Aman,
   you mean changing message?

Comment 5 Petr Schindler 2012-04-30 08:02:57 UTC
That seems reasonable. Also I'd like to mention, that the changes shows after reboot, not log out.

Comment 6 Pravin Satpute 2012-04-30 08:09:10 UTC
Yeah, very valid point i agree.

Comment 7 Adam Williamson 2012-05-03 19:48:57 UTC
Discussed at 2012-05-03 blocker review meeting. This obviously isn't serious enough to be a blocker. The tool works as intended.
