The attached backtrace does not match that - it's an early abort because clutter initialization failed, way before starting to manage any windows. I suspect that it corresponds to a seconds instance that was restarted after the crash you describe ...

Comment 12 Peter Larsen 2015-06-01 16:12:54 UTC
Has worked great for weeks - but during today's work it "just crashed" while I was watching a video in Firefox. No specific cause/action taken.

Comment 13 moshe 2015-06-09 14:35:35 UTC
ABRT is pointing me here for a gnome-shell crash. It is also pointing me at:

https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/423214/
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1134859
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1178304

FWIW, I was in a bluejeans conference call when the crash happened, so it might have something to do with video somehow. 2 or 3 of my colleagues also had problems during the Bluejeans conference. Not sure if they had a gnome-shell, X, or Wayland crash on them.

Comment 14 moshe 2015-06-09 17:14:12 UTC
Here is another BZ I opened when bluejeans crashed my windowing environment.

 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1226390

That time it caused Xorg to crash rather than gnome-shell

Comment 15 Milan Bouchet-Valat 2015-06-11 13:47:18 UTC
I've seen it too on F21 when resuming from suspend. Indeed, it made X crash too, or at least I couldn't access my session anymore.

Could it be related to a new kernel or something? Three reports out of four were done during the last few days.

Comment 16 Pablo Meniño 2015-06-21 15:39:10 UTC
Every time I start Fedora, I login on Gnome and freeze (blank screen), nee to kill Xorg from terminal (ctrr + alt + F3), then I can login OK in Gnome.

Comment 17 Steve 2015-06-21 16:15:22 UTC
In my case it is an random whole system freeze, mostly video.

I could reproduce this after using Scale tool on GIMP (2.8.14). It doesn't work as expected and after a few seconds all Gnome hangs with this error.
Fedora 21 x64

Comment 21 Anass Ahmed 2015-07-17 12:50:52 UTC
I could reproduce this bug again and again with playing a video on totem (GNOME Videos) and mostly at the end, GNOME Shell crashes (Sometimes X, I don't use wayland).

BTW, I've upgraded my Fedora 21 to 22 .. If it's a factor!

Comment 22 madstitz 2015-07-17 14:07:54 UTC
I can trigger this bug by playing video in totem. In most cases X crashes.

on fresh install of F22

Comment 23 Anass Ahmed 2015-07-17 14:11:31 UTC
In my case, X crashes a lot and GNOME shell crashes fewer. but what I can catch though is the Shell Crash using ABRT.

I will try again and see if I can catch X bug itself or not. but when I reported here, there was another report to this bug regarding "Dleyna Server": https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208905

Comment 24 Michael Catanzaro 2015-07-20 14:28:23 UTC
I can trigger this 100% with a development branch of Nibbles [1], when clutter is initialized in Nibbles. (If you want to try it out, just start a game and the crash will occur 100% when the countdown timer reaches 0.) I have no clue why that causes GNOME Shell to crash. I can play videos in totem without issue.

The crash seems to occur at the same time as https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/738499/ which I cannot report because "the backtrace is unusable."

Comment 25 Anass Ahmed 2015-07-31 18:46:39 UTC
This is the bug of X crashes when I use totem. Sometimes happened to X to crash instead of GNOME Shell here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1236783

Comment 26 Milan Bouchet-Valat 2015-08-24 09:35:18 UTC
Michael: Could you file a report in the GNOME bugzilla, telling them that you are able to reproduce the crash using Nibbles? That would really be helpful for all the people like me who suffer from this bug without being able to reproduce it. Thanks!

Comment 27 Michael Catanzaro 2015-08-24 13:31:31 UTC
I cannot reproduce it anymore. Something changed. :(

Comment 28 Fedora End Of Life 2016-07-19 12:52:19 UTC
Fedora 22 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-07-19. Fedora 22 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
