From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040312

Description of problem:
As a matter of fact, I am not sure if this bug is due to a bug in
xorg, X or KDE. But anyway ...

When choosing KDE as the login session, the KDE screen appears and the
process starts. At around 40%, my laptop shut itself down and stop
responding. A hard reboot is the only way out.
Since the suspend LED blinks, I presume it is an erroneous attempt to
go to suspend.
Indeed with acpi=off in the kernel command line parameters, the
problem disappear.
With GNOME i had no problems.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-libs-6.7.0-0.5

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add acpi=on on kernel parameters
2. login a KDE session

Actual Results: blank screen

Expected Results: KDE

HW: HP compaq nx 9000

This sounds like a kernel/ACPI problem.

Comment 2 Dave Jones 2004-12-08 06:10:05 UTC
