Never mind. These checks should be made "simple checks", not "zabbix agent" checks, and connections run from the server. Actually, there is a good use case for running these checks from the agent - when the monitored machine is not running all the time. That way the checks won't be run when the machine is down. Since the problem described in this bug report should be resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a resolution of ERRATA.
