Description of problem:
I have a Logitech MX-1000 Lazer mouse, but problem seems to exist in 
ALL mice I've tried.   I also own a Belkin 4 port KVM switch.

problem description:  when switching machines using the KVM,
and switch back to the Fedora machine,  mouse stops working.

how to prevent this from happening?

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.mouse
2.Belkin KVM (or other KVM)
3.switch to another macine, then back again.
    

Actual Results:  mouse won't work no more.  when move the mouse 
around, the cursor won't move or moves irratically popping up new 
windows all over the place.  however, once I reboot the machine, the 
mouse functions normally again,  until of course I switch machines 
again.  (sighs)
happens on FC1, 2, and 3. I reported it back in FC1 but nothing was 
ever done about it.  it works in windows, so apparently redhat don't 
care.

Please paste the output of

cat /proc/bus/input/devices before switching the KVM and afterwards.

Also do you have any BIOS options related to PS/2, Legacy USB Support,
etc?  Does it occur if you adjust those options?

I can't cut/paste before and after, my mouse don't work when I switch 
back over. I can't cut/paste without a functionable mouse.

Legacy USB support is not a PS/2 issue.  The KVM works just fine in 
WIndows machines.

cat /proc/bus/input/devices > somefile and save it to upload later/scp
to another computer.  

Saying it works in Windows isn't really that helpful as the way that
Windows interacts with the hardware is probably different.  Please can
you provide the information asked for, to enable me to start to debug
this.  Others are using KVM's with Fedora without this issue, so I
need to get specific details about your setup to work out what is going on

I don't see how others could NOT be having this problem,
I've tried 5 different brands of mice  (both Microsoft and Logitech 
models) and I've tried switching my KVM  from my Belkin 2 port  to my 
Belkin 4 port,  same problem on both KVM models,  and same problem 
occurs on my Linksys 2 port KVM.  so those are all popular models, so 
I don't see how others are not having this problem..  I bought the 
Belkin's because I was told they were 'active' KVM's so I wouldn't 
have this problem.    but they still exist,  so I don't know what to 
do now.

Ok, not really anything revealing there - can you try:

hexdump -C < /dev/input/event1

Move the mouse (Ctrl-C to quit), after restoring

Also try 

hexdump -C < /dev/input/mice

Also can you give me the model number of the KVM, and attach
individually and uncompressed your xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log

after I switch over,
in text mode,  I get this error:
psmouse.c: wheel mouse at isa0060/serial/input0 lost synchronization, 
throwing 3 bytes away

when I try to move the mouse around. Then when I move the mouse 
around more,  it throws up psmouse.c: wheel mouse at 
isa0060/serial/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away
then moves the screen around and around thru the command history,
so I don't know what the deal is.

It happens on more then one model, so what does that have anything to 
do with it?  I'm not going to list 3 different models, I'm sorry.

also I cannot send the output of hexdump -C < /dev/input/mice
or hexdump -C < /dev/input/event1  to a file. so I am unable to give 
you that information.  I can howeverr tell you when I run those 
commands after I switch,

clue, run the hardware probe?  I have no idea.

I know psmouse.proto=bare
does.  That actually fixes the problem entirely,
except, the mouse wheel doesn't work anymoore when I use "bare".

so I might try using the resetafter thing instead, I'll let you know.

nope,  psmouse.resetafter=3  doesn't work,
nor does psmouse.resetafter=1

only thing that seems to work so far is:

psmouse.proto=bare

but when I do that, the mouse wheel doesn't function.
which I guess is ok for now, but still rather annoying when I can't 
use the mouse wheel to scroll thru documents.

so I don't know what to do....  but this happens on EVERY mouse I 
have, both microsoft and logitech and off-brands,  so I know its not 
just me having this problem, in fact I did google searches and 
apparently there are alot of others that are too.  thats how I got 
the idea to use  psmouse.proto=bare,  because someone else said they 
got that to work on some mice.

seems to be related to Belkin switches, but Belkin refuses to do 
anything about it because "they don't care if it works in linux or 
not"   but then, other switches like LInksys for example, have other 
issues, so I've yet to find a KVM that works flawlessly in LInux. Its 
craziness.

Just as an FYI - I tried installed Core 3 and ran into the same issue.
 I added psmouse.proto=imps to the boot parameters and that seems to
have fixed ot for me.  I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the
thread, that's why I bring it up.  YMMV.

funny thing about this problem, this happens with both Microsoft and 
Logitech mice, so it cannot be just me.

I have the Belkin SOHO series 4-port KVM.
same problem with Belkin SOHO series 2-port KVM.

and yeap, my first KVM was a Linksys, which I agree has other issues. 
FOr example, Logitechs MouseWare software doesn't work with LInksys 
KVM's,  which kinda sucks..  I haven't tried my old LInksys KVM with 
FC3 yet.  All I know is,  I didn't have this problem at all in
FC1 or FC2.... This just started happening reciently when FC3 was 
released..  so it must be some weird thing with the latest kernel 
sets, or something..  Never had this problem with Redhat 9,  Fedora 
COre 1, or Fedora Core 2.  at all.. with any KVM,  it just suddenly 
became a major issue in Fedora Core 3 for some reason.

I'm running a MS Optical Mouse and an ICS-124 KVM switch, and the only
thing that has made it usable is the psmouse.proto-bare workaround.

This works 98% of the time, however, occasionally the mouse cursor
just vanishes and only a reboot will bring it back.  This may, or may
not be related to the above problem

in your grub.conf file.  under  /boot/grub.   you add 
psmouse.proto=bare  to the kernel line of your grub.conf file.

bare is the only thing that did work, but not a good solution because 
that disables the mouse wheel entirely. which doesn't solve the 
problem.

An update has been released for Fedora Core 3 (kernel-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3) which
may contain a fix for your problem.   Please update to this new kernel, and
report whether or not it fixes your problem.

If you have updated to Fedora Core 4 since this bug was opened, and the problem
still occurs with the latest updates for that release, please change the version
field of this bug to 'fc4'.

I can report that the bug still exists in FC4 (updated to 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4). My
version is slightly different than above:

- the mouse (logitech optical wireless) works for everything until I switch my
KVM (raritan switchman) to another machine and come back
- then the scroll-wheel is forever screwed up: scrolling down moves the mouse
pointer off the right of the screen, and scrolling up just makes the mouse disappear

This harware configuration works fine with FC1. I skipped FC2, but when I
installed FC3 and FC4, things stopped working.

This is a mass-update to all currently open Fedora Core 3 kernel bugs.

Fedora Core 3 support has transitioned to the Fedora Legacy project.
Due to the limited resources of this project, typically only
updates for new security issues are released.

As this bug isn't security related, it has been migrated to a
Fedora Core 4 bug.  Please upgrade to this newer release, and
test if this bug is still present there.

This bug has been placed in NEEDINFO_REPORTER state.
Due to the large volume of inactive bugs in bugzilla, if this bug is
still in this state in two weeks time, it will be closed.

Should this bug still be relevant after this period, the reporter
can reopen the bug at any time. Any other users on the Cc: list
of this bug can request that the bug be reopened by adding a

A new kernel update has been released (Version: 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4)
based upon a new upstream kernel release.

Please retest against this new kernel, as a large number of patches
go into each upstream release, possibly including changes that
may address this problem.
