Description Göran Uddeborg 2016-11-21 20:14:50 UTC
Description of problem:
When doing "man dig" I see a page where the roff directives show, and the formatting is broken.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
bind-utils-9.10.4-2.P4.fc25.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. man dig

Actual results:
A page that starts:

.SH "NAME" dig - DNS lookup utility
  .SH "SYNOPSIS"
    .HP 4

Expected results:
A page starting like this:

NAME
      dig - DNS lookup utility

SYNOPSIS
      dig [@server] ...

(With the headers in boldface.)

Additional info:
Looking at the source in /usr/share/man/man1/dig.1.gz all the roff directives are indented. That wasn't legal formatting in the time I wrote this kind of documents. It seems it is still not legal.

The other manual pages in bind-utils look good. This problem only happens for "dig".

Comment 2 Petr Menšík 2016-12-06 19:33:58 UTC
Reported as ISC-Bugs #43831 upstream. The bug is related to https://sourceforge.net/p/docbook/bugs/1381/

Temporary workaround is before compilation:
find . -name '*.docbook' -exec sed -e 's,xmlns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook",xmlns:db="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook",' -i '{}' ';'

Waiting for upstream for response.

Comment 4 Petr Menšík 2016-12-12 18:16:47 UTC
Upstream docs are fixed by https://source.isc.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=bind9.git;a=commit;h=1b8ce3b3302f0afe682d04df8a1f20b4ac346fb2
When I backport docs change to Fedora 25 and Rawhide, man page(s) would be fine again.

Comment 7 Lukas Slebodnik 2017-01-16 12:20:14 UTC
Is there a reason why this patch was not backported with recent update bind-9.10.4-3.P5 ? (or 9.11.0-4.P2 in rawhide)
