Description Justin Sherrill 2017-03-13 17:57:26 UTC
Description of problem:

Currently the katello event queue in qpidd is using the default queue size which is too small. We should increase this to be able to handle ~1 million messages.

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_MRG/2/html/Messaging_Installation_and_Configuration_Guide/Create_and_Configure_Queues_using_qpid_config.html

This is only to prevent the standard flow of messages from causing QPID to start putting Candlepin into an error state due to the qpid putting the qpid sender into a flow_stopped state.

Also, what's a good value? Is this --max-queue-size? Since the value is in bytes, how big does it need to be to support ~1 million messages?

Comment 4 Justin Sherrill 2017-03-30 17:03:54 UTC
I honestly have no idea the size :)

my suggestion is to stop the katello listener (foreman-tasks) cause it to generate some large # of messages (say 10K) and measure the size of the queue. I would say ask the candlepin team, but I doubt they'd be able to give us much information as well as it all depends on the data being sent.

Created redmine issue http://projects.theforeman.org/issues/19133 from this bug

Thank you for your interest in Satellite 6. We have evaluated this request, and we do not expect this to be implemented in the product in the foreseeable future. We are therefore closing this out as WONTFIX. If you have any concerns about this, please feel free to contact Rich Jerrido or Bryan Kearney. Thank you.
