Description Marek Haicman 2017-06-27 10:37:20 UTC
Description of problem:
Because of missing XCCDF rule checking whether auditd is installed, SCAP Security Guide cannot remediate it. This results in lots of failed rules after hardened installation.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
scap-security-guide-0.1.33-5.el7.noarch

How reproducible:
reliably

Steps to Reproduce:
either:
1. install system with selection of pci-dss
2. open datastream in scap-workbench and search within content_group_auditing for rule checking installation of the auditd
3.

Actual results:
1. machine is failing all audit-related rules
2. no rule checking for installation of package

Expected results:
1. machine has no failing audit-related rules
2. rule is present there (and enabled) for pci-dss profile

Additional info:

Comment 1 Marek Haicman 2017-06-27 11:09:51 UTC
Update: audit is installed by default, so the 1) scenario in description is not caused by this.

Comment 2 Marek Haicman 2017-06-27 12:20:50 UTC
Reason for 1) scenario is discussed in Bug 1465402

Comment 3 Matěj Týč 2018-11-26 12:36:55 UTC
Remark: This outstanding issue of this BZ is about making sure that the "audit is installed" rule is selected in the RHEL SSG content.

Comment 4 Marek Haicman 2019-03-12 16:39:13 UTC
I see it as the feature of the build system - when checking configuration of package XXX, build system should ensure/check the package is actually needed by the profile.

Comment 5 Marek Haicman 2019-03-12 16:39:27 UTC
This issue was not selected to be included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7 because it is seen either as low or moderate impact to a small number of use-cases. The next release will be in Maintenance Support 1 Phase, which means that qualified Critical and Important Security errata advisories (RHSAs) and Urgent Priority Bug Fix errata advisories (RHBAs) may be released as they become available. We will now close this issue, but if you believe that it qualifies for the Maintenance Support 1 Phase, please re-open; otherwise, we recommend moving the request to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 if applicable.
