Cloning requires Perl, see bug 1358108. Does the guest have Perl installed?

Hi Chetan,
I am a QE test open-vm-tools on our RHEL, I try to reproduce this bug on our test ENV, I tried to clone vm from a RHEL 7.3 template that contain open-vm-tools-10.0.5-2.el7 , and clone template from a template, but can not reproduce this issue.
Could you help provide more detail information about this issue?

Thanks
ldu

Could we please get a response to my question in comment #2? If Perl is present, we will need to collect and look into the customization logs from the guest from /var/log/vmware-imc/*.log.

@Chetan could you please get the required details from the customer or have the customer open a support case with VMware?

Hello Ravindra,

SFDC case 01964040 was auto-closed due to no response from customer. We(rjones) requested output of # rpm -q perl on November 3.

I have re-opened this case and followed up. I will update the case as and when I get response from customer.

I'm assigning this bug to myself. Ravindra please continue to work this issue.

Comment 8 Ravindra Kumar 2018-07-05 20:56:34 UTC
If customer case is closed, we will have to close this because we can't proceed further without the information I requested in comment #4. If guest has Perl installed, you can also suggest customer to open a case with VMware because any failure with Perl present is very unlikely to be an open-vm-tools issue.

Comment 9 Richard W.M. Jones 2018-07-05 21:05:33 UTC
IMHO we should close this bug, CLOSED -> INSUFFICIENT_DATA.
