Services listed in systemsettings are mostly about *user* services, not system ones. powerdevil is started via xdg autostart, /etc/xdg/autostart/powerdevil.desktop This isn't a bug (closing), more a support issue (you shouldn't be killing random daemons unless you know what you're doing or have a note from your mom) Look, I'm going to cut you a break because you're German or something, but the issue isn't with my inability to restart a random daemon, it's that THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY KDE TO FIX THE PROBLEM ARE INCORRECT. There's no point in telling people to go the the services dialog if that's not what they should do. Please change the error message to "you shouldn't be killing random daemons unless you know what you're doing or have a note from your mom" or submit the problem for fixing. ALSO, "xdg autostart" is not an explanation about how to restart a daemon. So, thanks for playing, but you really shouldn't be interacting with the public if this is the sort of advice you give. Do we need an alternative bugzilla where problems actually get solved? I'm sure3 as hell not submitting further bugs here if this is what happens. As for the kde documentation, my apologies. This section, "This module is a configuration tool for managing Power Management in Plasma. It is a configurator for the PowerDevil daemon, that you can start or stop from the Background Services module in System Settings." is indeed now out-of-date and incorrect. I don't recall exactly when it was changed, but it is no longer started as a kde background service. I'll take the issue to kde upstream to fix the docs ... probably simplest to simply omit the incorrect statement "... that you can start or stop from the Background Services module in System Settings." that's a technical detail that is not well-suited to user-facing documentation. For a hint how XDG autostart works, please look at the text file, /etc/xdg/autostart/powerdevil.desktop and look for the Exec= key if you want to (re)start it, run that command by hand (in a terminal/konsole or whatever). Filed issue upstream, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396635 to amend/fix the documentation to be clearer. I encourage you to correspond on our mailing list, https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/kde and/or irc chat, #fedora-kde channel on freenode, if you have further questions. |
