Comment 1 William Poteat 2019-03-26 18:10:33 UTC
Candlepin does not support characters for activation key names other than letters, numbers, hyphen, and underscore.
Katello will need to adjust to this so that activation keys are properly named and can be used at registration.

Comment 6 Perry Gagne 2019-11-25 16:17:36 UTC
Cole is the new Component owner for Activation Keys, assigning to him.

Cole, let me know if you have any questions on these or need help verifying them.

Comment 7 Cole Higgins 2019-11-25 21:08:00 UTC
Was there a Katello/Satellite side fix to this as well? The linked PRs only seem to be for Candlepin.

Also, I tested this in Sat 6.7 snap 3 and I was able to create an activation key named ',.;?'. Shouldn't it have blocked me?

Comment 8 Cole Higgins 2019-11-26 16:33:03 UTC
Failed in satellite 6.7 snap 3.

Katello let me create and update the activation key with special characters. However, subscription-manager is still unable to register with those characters.

[root@coleslocal ~]# subscription-manager register --org="Default_Organization" --activationkey=",.;?"
HTTP error (404 - Not Found): Couldn't find activation key ''

Brad, can you let us know if there are any Katello changes for this bug?

Comment 9 Brad Buckingham 2019-11-26 17:37:16 UTC
There haven't been any katello changes made for this bugzilla. If changes are needed, I'd propose we move this one to sat-backlog for resolution in a future release.

Cole,

Can you attach the output of the Satellite production.log capturing the 'register' scenario?

Comment 11 Barnaby Court 2020-02-03 19:31:23 UTC
Closing due to closure of the downstream BZ

Comment 12 Partha Aji 2020-02-10 20:24:30 UTC
Reopening this bug because only the update case is handled.
I should not be able to create an activation key with special characters in it.

Comment 14 Rehana 2020-02-20 16:56:45 UTC
Based on the discussion https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1803919#c2 its identified that the fix is needed on the katello side.
