Description of problem:

When plugging in Canon EOS 7D i can't access my photos.
Not via console or nautilus or shotwell or Corel AfterShot Pro 2

How reproducible:

Connect Canon EOS 7D, camera is discovered, popup for camera shown, could be browsed via Nautilus or Shotwell. Folder DCIM and MISC under store_deadbeef is discovered without content.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect camera
2. Power on camera
3. Camera is discovered
4. no pictures could be accessed

Actual results:

No pictures accessed.

Expected results:

Pictures could be accessed.

Additional info:

This is a Scientific Linux 7.6
Was working with version 7.4 back in 2017 when on my USA vacation.
Is working with current Fedora 29.
There is an older bugzilla for version 7.5 with no solution. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1551747
