Description Ian Donaldson 2019-05-05 08:02:55 UTC
Created attachment 1563786 [details]
picture of kdm login screen

Description of problem:

kdm on fc30 no longer has a username and password prompt; all
that is visible is an unlabelled password box right up the top-left.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kdm-4.11.22-24.fc30.x86_64

How reproducible:

100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
   systemctl disable sddm
   systemctl stop sddm
   systemctl enable kdm
   systemctl start kdm

2. reboot

3. observe login screen messed up. See attached image.

Entering just my password does work though; since I was the last
logged-in user, it allows me in and my session behaves ok.

Actual results:

Both Username and login prompts as per fc29 and prior.

Expected results:

Additional info:

This system was distro-sync'd from fc29.

Also there is no 'kdm' category in bugzilla; so thats why kdmtheme
was chosen.

Hi Ian!

I've seen the same problems on my DELL laptop after the upgrade
BUT
only with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to the laptop.

Without them everything works as expected.

Hi,

I have the same problem after upgrade to Fedora 30.
Just a correction - I think that kdm is part of kde-workspace.

Comment 3 Ian Donaldson 2019-05-08 02:00:46 UTC
FYI I've done a fresh install and kdm has the same issue. Can't login as anybody as the username
prompt/input isn't there and there were no prior logins!

I've switched back to sddm as a workaround; but that has other issues in our env, although less issues
than a few years ago when I gave up on sddm; but may be workable.

Switching to kde-workspace; thanks Boyan
