Description Upstream Release Monitoring 2021-01-26 09:19:43 UTC
Latest upstream release: 0.8.3
Current version/release in rawhide: 0.8.2-1.fc34
URL: https://crates.io/crates/rand

Please consult the package updates policy before you issue an update to a stable branch: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/

More information about the service that created this bug can be found at: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upstream_release_monitoring

Please keep in mind that with any upstream change, there may also be packaging changes that need to be made. Specifically, please remember that it is your responsibility to review the new version to ensure that the licensing is still correct and that no non-free or legally problematic items have been added upstream.

Since Rust 1.50.0, rand tests are failing on x86_64:

running 68 tests
malloc(): corrupted top size

[...]

error: test failed, to rerun pass '--lib'

Caused by:
process didn't exit successfully: `/builddir/build/BUILD/rand-0.8.3/target/release/deps/rand-04576d6a4a608985` (signal: 6, SIGABRT: process abort signal)

This is blocking the rand 0.8.3 update.

Pasting some info from #fedora-rust IRC channel:

bisected in rustc to be caused by:
https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/commit/e261649593cf9c2707f7b30a61c46c4469c67ebb

and fixed again by bumping to LLVM 12:
https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/commit/409920873cf8a95739a55dc5fe5adb05e1b4758e

Kudos to jistone for the detective work.
