Description Orion Poplawski 2021-06-14 16:17:58 UTC
Description of problem:

Since upgrading from CentOS 8.3 to 8.4 and thus samba 4.12.3-12 to 4.13.3-3 we have seen the oom killer kill the epmd process on two of our IPA servers.

It looking at our 6 IPA server we see a variety of situations, from epmd not running at all, to memory usage varying quite a bit, e.g.:

VmData: 203992 kB
VmData: 1031632 kB
VmData: 2387272 kB

No idea what is expected for the epmd process. I don't know what memory usage was like with 8.3, just that the oom kill is new.

Nothing seems to be in /var/log/samba/log.smbd.epmd
