I encountered MIMEdefang crashing in production in MIMEdefang 2.85 in CentOS Stream 8. I researched the root cause and submitted a bug report to the MIMEdefang maintainers with a suggested fix:

They've already fixed it a different way in MIMEdefang 2.86. You could upgrade the RPM to 2.86, or you could just take the fix:
