Comment 6 Elliott Sales de Andrade 2023-01-13 06:15:51 UTC
Hey, just wondering if you have any plans to update this (before F38 perhaps)?

I ran some queries:

$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatrequires libgsasl
$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'libgsasl(x86-64)'
$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'libgsasl.so.7()(64bit)'
$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'libgsasl.so.7(LIBGSASL_1.1)(64bit)'
$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'libgsasl.so.7(LIBGSASL_1.4)(64bit)'
$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'libgsasl.so.7(LIBGSASL_1.10)(64bit)'

and it looks like the following depend on this:

erlang-esasl-0:0.1-35.20120116git665cc80.fc37.x86_64
exim-0:4.96-6.fc37.x86_64
jabberd-0:2.6.1-22.fc37.x86_64
jreen-0:1.2.1-22.fc37.x86_64
jreen-qt5-0:1.2.1-22.fc37.x86_64
libgsasl-devel-0:1.10.0-4.fc37.x86_64
msmtp-0:1.8.22-1.fc37.x86_64
pokerth-0:1.1.2-23.fc37.x86_64
tin-0:2.6.2-1.fc37.x86_64

Note that it appears that upstream merged gsasl and libgsasl, so this package might need to be renamed, or perhaps could be a new one that is parallel-installable with the v1 here.

Comment 7 Elliott Sales de Andrade 2023-01-13 09:59:09 UTC
As a test, I've built libgsasl-2.2.0 (with a poorly updated spec), and then built the above list of dependents in a copr: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/qulogic/libgsasl2/

AFAICT, nothing was broken by this update (only jreen failed to build, but it was for an unrelated reason.)

Update to 2.2.2 (#2099366)

Comment 14 Peter Lemenkov 2026-03-24 15:41:15 UTC
Deprioritizing this upgrade. The primary consumer of libgsasl in Fedora was msmtp, but msmtp upstream has disabled libgsasl by default since the 1.8.x stable series, noting that "as using GNU SASL is most likely unnecessary ... since everything uses TLS nowadays and thus can use PLAIN authentication, you really only need it for GSSAPI."

We plan to update msmtp to 1.8.32 without libgsasl support, which means this upgrade is no longer blocking anything. The libgsasl 1.10.0 → 2.2.2 upgrade involves a major version bump with potential API/ABI changes and is not justified by the current demand.

If someone needs libgsasl 2.x for other purposes, co-maintainers are welcome.
