The fakechroot is in Fedora and in EPEL 8: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1432505

Please branch and build fakechroot in epel9 as well.

fakechroot is more or less abandonware . 

I maintain fakechroot because could be used by pbuilder and debootstrap, nowadays I don't know if it is necessary.

ATM, debbuild, debhelper, debootstrap, dpkg  and pbuilder requires fakeroot and not fakechroot. 

If you justifies me that it is necessary or is better to have fakechroot, I'd appreciate it, because I'm not sure if it can be replaced

I use fakeroot and fakechroot for testing of rpm2swidtag (packaged in Fedora as swid-tools -- https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/swid-tools/): https://github.com/swidtags/rpm2swidtag/blob/master/test.sh#L55-L58. That tooling integrates with dnf and for testing it is useful to pretend to dnf that it running in a separate chroot, without having the full permissions to do so.

Having it in EPEL 9 would make it easier to add the upstream tests on CentOS 9 Stream as well. It seems fakechroot-2.20.1-11.fc37.src.rpm compiles and work on CentOS 9 Stream fine.
