Description browseria 2022-11-16 15:54:31 UTC
Description of problem:
Just upgraded to Fedora Workstation 37, but virt-manager now no longer passes the Super Key through to the VM. It still works correctly when connecting with virt-viewer albeit virt-viewer does ask about “allow inhibiting shortcuts” (which I do); I seem to remember virt-manager doing this previously, but now no longer does. A clue? How to get virt-manager to see the super key again?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
virt-manager 4.1.0
libvirt 8.6.0

How reproducible:
Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. virt-manager &
2. Select a running virtual machine
3. Click Open
4. Make sure that the VM has focus (click in it)
5. Press the Super key

Actual results:
The host operating system catches the Super key every time instead of the VM that has focus. It puts up the Overview for the host computer instead of that of the VM.

Expected results:
If the VM has focus/is in full screen mode, the Super key should be passed through to the VM, and the VM should respond by switching to the Activities Overview of the VM.

Additional info:
I just tried with a clean install of Fedora 37 workstation, same results. This was working with virt-manager in Fedora 36.
Also, some other keys fail to make it to the VM, specifically, <ctrl>-<-> (minus) used to zoom out typically, is being eaten.

this bug made me go back to f36. this needs to be fixed asap. I also saw people on irc talking about this.

I believe this is a gnome-shell issue that has a queued update fixed for f37: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2144172
