pdns-recursor is already updated by rebase, bug #2257607. To prevent future multiple changes, we might want to consider shared DNS root hints, like Debian dns-root-data [1] does. But some programs does not read hints from file by default anyway. Example might be drill from ldns-utils. Even unbound has separate built-in only hints. It has no separate file, which we could change to be shared. Perhaps bugs to modify those upstreams to offer at least build-time, better only runtime reading of root hints. Both ldns and unbound have code to read zone files anyway. 1. https://salsa.debian.org/dns-team/dns-root-data This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 40 development cycle.
