It's because it tries to use IPv6 address that resolves but doesn't work instead of the IPv4 address. $ wget -4 URL works I think it should failover to the IPv4 automatically and immediately as other tools do. Thanks, I already filed this some time ago in the Upstream and it is now fixed. I will fix this in Fedora as well.
