Description Matt Fagnani 2025-09-28 01:35:03 UTC
I booted the Fedora KDE live image Fedora-KDE-Desktop-Live-43-20250927.n.0.x86_64.iso. In Plasma Welcome Center, I clicked Next four times. Grey rectangles like pages were shown for VLC and GIMP instead of their icons on the Find Great Apps page in Plasma Welcome Center. This problem happened when booting the image in a VM and on bare metal.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot the Fedora KDE live image Fedora-KDE-Desktop-Live-43-20250927.n.0.x86_64.iso
2. In Plasma Welcome Center, click Next four times until the the Find Great Apps page is shown
3.
Actual Results:
Grey rectangles were shown for VLC and GIMP instead of their icons in Plasma Welcome Center

Expected Results:
The icons for VLC and GIMP should have been shown in Plasma Welcome Center

Confirmed that with Fedora-KDE-Desktop-Live-43-20250928 build too.

Neal said at the matrix room: "this is probably related to breeze deleting third-party icons"

Comment 4 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2025-09-29 15:28:28 UTC
Proposed as a Freeze Exception for 43-final by Fedora user geraldosimiao using the blocker tracking app because:

Proposing this as FE using the final criterion of basic app funcionality since it show right at the start on a live-session F43 KDE Desktop Edition and It creates a bad first impression for peopletrying Fedora KDE.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_43_Final_Release_Criteria#Default_application_functionality

Upstream already know about this and have a fix for Plasma 6.5. Maybe they can backport it or we can use a patch.

Comment 5 Lukas Ruzicka 2025-09-29 17:29:16 UTC
AGREED AcceptedFinalFreezeException

Discussed at the 2025-09-29 (blocker / freeze exception) review meeting:

This decision is accepted as a Freeze Exception due to the lack of understanding and appreciation for the artistic vision behind the grey square image.
