Description Michal Jaegermann 2007-07-12 00:39:32 UTC
Description of problem:

That oops just happened while retrieving packages in 'yum update'.
The machine in question did not die although an ssh connection
in use become catatonic. Luckily it was possible to get
another one.

well that's umm, special.

Did this ever happen again ? On more recent kernels perhaps?

To avoid chasing ghosts, if this is still reproducable, it'd be interesting to
know if this box survives a memtest run too.

> Did this ever happen again ? On more recent kernels perhaps?

Not that I am aware of.  This is not a box which sits on my desk;
I am rather watching it from a distance. Hence a sigh of relief
that a blocked ssh connection did not mean a total cutoff. :-)
It looks like that the oops quoted was a "special event".

> .... if this box survives a memtest run too.

This is not something I can easily arrange but the machine
in question is in everyday quite extensive use and it looks rather
healthy.
