A flaw was found in game-music-emu. This flaw allows an attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing applications that process untrusted audio files. By providing a specially crafted ZXAYEMUL file with an oversized track table, an integer underflow in the AY loader triggers an out-of-bounds memory read beyond the allocated buffer.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-15 19:10:35 UTC
Game Music Emu (libgme) through 0.6.5 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the AY loader get_data function caused by an integer underflow in the track-table bounds check. Attackers can supply a crafted ZXAYEMUL file with an oversized track table to read past the file buffer via gme_track_info or gme_start_track, crashing libgme consumers.

I've notified upstream: https://github.com/audacious-media-player/audacious/issues/1890

As a last resort, the "Game Console Music Decoder" input plugin could be disabled at build-time. It's included only within an optional sub-package for many years anyway.
