Description kilolima 2009-04-22 08:27:33 UTC
Description of problem:

Error message at end of copying live image to harddrive section of install proccess :

"An error occurred mounting device /dev/sda4 as /: mount failed: (2, None). This is a fatal error and the install cannot continue.

Press <Enter> to exit the installer."

In this case, sda4 is the / partition and had been selected in the installation to be formatted as ext3.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.launch install to hard drive

2.select custom partition (sda4 set to / and format ext3, sda2 set to /home but do not format (although the installer at this point also refuses to remember the /home mount option from the 'edit' setting unless the format toggle is checked. And if the format toggle is unchecked, it is automatically rechecked again if the edit option is revisited. In this case, sda2 is my pre-existing ext3 luks encrypted partition that I want to preserve.

3. After the end of the copying live image to hard drive step, the installer fails with this message.

Actual results:

Installer exits with error message. After that, cannot rerun installer, complains sda4 cannot be unmounted. Since grub has already been wiped, the entire computer is unusable at this point. Maybe install grub AFTER everything else?

Expected results:

New Fedora install.

Sorry.. Am able to re-start install process without unmounting errors.

Comment 2 kilolima 2009-04-22 08:41:22 UTC
Sorry.. Am able to re-start install process without unmounting errors. Just realized that failure to load boot loader is because it was located on the formatted sda4 partition, not a problem with grub. Also, the error message appears after the "now making changes to your install (or something like that) dialog".
