Description of problem: yum update fails


Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.2.23


How reproducible: /usr/bin/yum update


Steps to Reproduce:
1. /usr/bin/yum update
2.

Actual results: The first few packages don't actually exist on the mirrors, so yum searches its mirrors, doesn't find the package, and tries to get the next package.  Same result for the next few packages so I kill yum.


Expected results: packages are updated

So, for the past few days yum has claimed that:

are not on http://ftp.colocall.net/pub/fedora/linux/updates/11/i386/ and I
suspect they aren't on the other mirrors.

Since the first few files in the set to be updated don't actually exist, the
impatient (including me for a while) would watch yum try to get those files
from umpteen mirrors, fail, then loose patience and kill the yum process.

I have successfully updated the packages that do exist, e.g.,:

/usr/bin/yum update webkitgtk
/usr/bin/yum update oprofile
/usr/bin/yum update phonon rpm
/usr/bin/yum update selinux-policy

etc.  I suspect that non-existant files were mistakenly put in yum's update
queue, so this may be more of a human error rather than a yum error.

Also note I did "/usr/bin/yum clean metadata" and "/usr/bin/yum clean all" to no avail.

I tried to install espeak, but yum failed:

I then found espeak on:

which lead me to look for the files yum couldn't find, as noted in a previous
entry for this bug.  I found in
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/updates/testing/11/i386/ these files:

so of the nine files that yum couldn't find, as noted in a previous entry for
this bug, only:

alsa-plugins-pulseaudio
farsight2

RPMs seem to be missing, but the seven listed just above are in the
/updates/testing/11/i368 tree rather than the /updates/11/i368 tree.

I also see that yum is trying a lot of mirrors in Europe, whereas I'm on the
east coast of America.  I installed yum-plugin-fastestmirror and tried to
install espeak again, but that failed again and the mirrors searched were
still primarily "far away":
