Screenshot for Lohit Malayalam on gedit, kwrite and oowriter

Description of problem:
The lohit font 2.4.4 version gives wrong redering in oowriter for cons + virama + ra
sequence.
See the attached screenshot comparing the rendering on gedit, oowriter and kwrite.
The prebase ra sign becomes postbase in oowriter applications, while in GNOME
applications it is correct.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Lohit 2.4.4
libicu 4.2.16

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compare the rendering of പ്രഭാതം, അക്രമം, സൂത്രം etc in gedit and oowriter

Actual results:
See the attached screenshot

Expected results:
See the attached screenshot

Additional Information:
1. Similar issue exists with KDE
2. Two other fonts - (i) Samyak Malayalam and (ii) Kalyani also has similar issue with both qt and icu
3. Bug filed for same issue with KDE - Bug 582303

Comment 1 Caolan McNamara 2009-10-20 19:00:50 UTC
Various implementations are doing things differently and some happen to give results that look good and some not, often by pure luck and silly font-specific hackery. The only sane thing to do is to follow the spec of http://www.microsoft.com/typography/OpenType%20Dev/malayalam/intro.mspx exactly and standardize on that behaviour. (e.g. once in harfbuzz and stick everything on top of that).

Get a screenshot from a uniscribe enabled application for reference :-)

Seems that the suggestion in bug 654200 fixes this as well
